Welcome to Tau
Tau brings conversations, work streams, and teams of agents into one workspace. Use the Assistant to find work, explore an idea, or ask a squad to produce something. Follow the result in the Feed and step in when a decision needs you.
Choose your setup
Section titled “Choose your setup”Choose the instructions for your workspace. You can change this selection at any time beside the theme control, or in the menu on mobile. Most of Tau works the same in both modes.
Tau Cloud hosts your instance. Start by opening your Cloud account, creating or opening an instance, and connecting the model provider your agents will use.
Run Tau on your own machine. Choose where agents execute, complete the installer, and create your first account. You manage the host, updates, and backups.
Complete your first task
Section titled “Complete your first task”The first-task walkthrough takes you from a working instance to a finished, written deliverable. It uses a small example that needs no repository or chat integration.
You will create a squad, choose a workflow, start a conversation through the Assistant, and check the completed result.
Use the Assistant
Section titled “Use the Assistant”Open the Assistant with ⌘K on macOS or Ctrl K on Windows and Linux. Search for a squad, work stream, or conversation; open it inline; or ask Tau for help.

Connect your tools
Section titled “Connect your tools”Start with a model provider. Add GitHub, project tools, or chat channels when your tasks need them. Set up notifications so you know when work needs you.
Run and maintain Tau
Section titled “Run and maintain Tau”Self-hosted administrators can choose a runtime and access setup, plan updates and backups, and troubleshoot problems.
